Presumably, after detecting an earlier version of Edius, the update process first performs the same normal uninstall procedure before installing the new version. After cancelling the update message I get the message: Failed to communicate with the service and after OK Edius has ended. Unfortunately, after this attempt, I cannot run Edius 10.21 any more.
